The other day I was trapped in my Hairdresser’s chair for a few hours. Well, having the glitter removed from my hair takes time you know. I always take work to do because silly celebrity magazines bore me and I have important things to get done!
So Michelle asked me how my business was doing.
I reflected for a moment. Then I reminded her that three years ago last August, Toby was dangerously ill and on the heart transplant list and at the same time I suddenly had a crazy idea for a new business. That month my entire income was a dismal £60 and I didn’t know how I was going to cope with the stress of it all. It seemed like life wasn’t just giving me lemons, it was flipping well hurling them at me! Michelle and I looked at each other in the mirror, remembering tearful times.
Toby may have had serious Cardiomyopathy BUT with the help of regular Cranial Osteopathy treatments he managed to travel back and forth to college on 4 buses per day and still get Distinctions in his BTEC in Performing Arts! Periodically, he would say, “Mum I think I need a ‘top up’ with Anne!”
Working part-time for the Rollin Becker Institute meant that I got to chat with many wonderful Osteopaths. Inadvertently, I started sharing marketing ideas and strategies to help them find more patients. One day the word Osteobiz popped into my head and despite being terrified of failure, I began taking baby steps towards launching my business idea.
Fast forward 3 years and I updated Michelle. Toby has recovered from the heart transplant, is in a steady relationship, he’s fit and well and studying Accountancy whilst working in a job he loves. This year I have already worked with more private clients than ever before and delivered online courses to hundreds of worldwide Osteopaths. Incredibly, my income for August actually blew my mind! And finally, I told her, the Old Boy has stopped asking me to go out and ‘get a proper job’! As Michelle dipped her brush in the vivid red hair colour, our big grins burst out simultaneously in the mirror.
But why do I bother?
As I sat looking at my outrageous aluminium foil hair do, reflecting on my exciting journey so far, I wondered about WHY I put in such long hours at my desk? WHY am I so passionate about my work? WHY do I constantly search for new ideas, tips and strategies to share with you and indeed WHY do I bother at all? These are my reasons:
☑ I bother because I vehemently believe that Osteopathy is a very under-rated natural treatment and I am passionate about changing that. I want you to alleviate more pain for more people in your community.
☑ I bother because I witnessed how Osteopathy kept Toby in remarkable good health for five years enabling him to live an almost normal school life. Otherwise it was very likely that he would have been weak, very ill and stuck for months in Great Ormond Street Hospital while he waited for a new heart. As a mother, I am incredibly grateful for that gift.
☑ I bother because nothing makes my heart sing like an Osteopath telling me how they are so busy that they don’t need my help anymore.
☑ I bother because I am on a mission to help you shine your light on your world.
☑ I bother because there is simply nothing else I would rather do.
So my question to you now is: What is YOUR mission and why do YOU bother?
