I can hear you groaning! Social media strategies? Is it all a bit of a puzzle? Are you sharing stuff but getting no response? Do you add things a bit randomly because you don’t want to bother people by frantic postings every five minutes? Do you give it a good bash for a couple of days when you’re not very busy but then get distracted and completely stop doing anything? Are you worried about wasting endless hours on social media and it amounting to nothing? Are you getting fed up of shouting down a deep dark hole?
Well you’re not alone! Most people seem to be unsure of their social media strategies and so let’s address that right now. Let’s look at the fundamentals.
Basic social media strategies
- Only concentrate on the platforms where your Perfect Patients hang out. (If you don’t know who you’re trying to attract, then we need to talk urgently!) So, for instance, if you’re wanting to treat more pregnant mums, then you won’t typically find them hanging out on LinkedIn!
- Choose one to three platforms and post something every day which you know your Perfect Patient will find interesting. So no posting complex medical stuff which, whilst it gives you a buzz, leaves your target audience cold!
- If you’re on Facebook, ensure that your page is a business page built off the back of your personal profile. Using a new personal profile page as a biz page is a big no no! It will likely be shut down and you will lose all those precious contacts…
- Ensure that you have a great cover for your page, which has impact and draws the eye. Add a strong statement to get attention.
- Are you pointing them towards your website, your phone number and your location? These days people have the attention spans of goldfish so make it easy for them to contact you.
- Don’t hide behind your logo! I say this all the time and I’ll say it again – PEOPLE BUY PEOPLE! They don’t buy bland, boring and dull logos or pictures of a plinth! Hype yourself up, put on your widest smile and say cheese! My own business has DOUBLED since I came out from behind my logo with my cheeky grin!
Basic social media strategies are crucial if you want to bring in more patients for no cost but just a little of your time and attention. So post something relevant and interesting to your audience every day. Think about their issues and what it’s stopping them from doing. Think about the questions they ask you over and over again. There is a mountain of content right there in your head.
If you do nothing else today, go and give your profile pages the once over – are they fit for purpose? Or are they – ahem! – as dry as a bone?
