What me? Yes you!
I’ve been asking around about how many of you take an email address when you see a new patient. It seems that about half of you do take their email but of those that do, almost none of you keep in touch that way! Let’s explore why this is a huge mistake and a massively missed opportunity.
Let’s take your favourite local restaurant as an example here. It’s an awesome Thai place. Oh – the local Italian serves pasta like it’s made by a goddess. Now, for steak and fries there’s nowhere like this place in the same county! They love you and you love them, right?
How many of them take your email and give you a nudge now and then? How many send you a special offer just for being a regular and valued customer or mention a particular reason to return? I’ll bet that’s pretty close to zero. You wouldn’t mind them keeping in touch even monthly, so why don’t they? Surely, if you received an email with an invitation to visit, you might wink at your other half, book a babysitter and a table and toddle off to delight in their delectable food. (I’m not here to provide relationship counselling but you need a DATE NIGHT now and again people!!)
Now you know where I’m going with this – keeping your patients in tip top condition is not only a favour to them but maybe to their significant other too…
But back to the newsletter thingy. Sending them via snail mail these days is prohibitive; it’s not only costly in terms of stationery and printing but also your time which is valuable anyway. Many letters might be going to addresses where your patients no longer live. At least their email travels with them – except into the next life – but you get my drift.
This is a vast topic which I want to cover in much greater detail. So we’ll revisit this again – meanwhile, go book that wonderful restaurant!
