Easter Bunnies and Megaphone Marketing

It’s a short week here in the UK as we wind down towards the Easter break this weekend. Losing that day can mean that we end up squeezing so much extra into our days that we need Good Friday off to recover!

BunnyAll the family are coming over that day for a massive roast beef lunch with all the trimmings; roast potatoes and parsnips, cheesy vegetable bake, Yorkshire puddings and rich homemade gravy. I can’t wait!

But apart from the celebrations, family time and biting the ears off those yummy little choccie bunnies, it’s also a good time to reflect on the first quarter of the year and decide if our business is on track or whether any changes need to be implemented.  For me, the best part about being business owners is that we can see what needs changing and action it.

There are no layers of management to fight through; no endless and pointless meetings taking up otherwise productive time and creating yet more paperwork and bureaucracy.  Decisions can be so hard to reach in some meetings that it can seem easier to herd cats!

A friend from the Civil Service was talking yesterday about trying to get things done in her department.  As she spoke, I could feel my arteries constricting and that suffocating feeling you get when you’re working in an environment where obvious improvements can take months to be implemented!

So looking back on my last three months, I can see just how far I’ve come and the enormous amount of encouragement and positive comments I’ve received from so many of you who say how delighted you are to have me championing your cause.  Daily, I can see the progress we’re making by helping you to change your business and move towards a sustainable Practice.  Receiving your feedback about how my tips, ideas and strategies are working is enormously rewarding.

I’m so delighted this week to have been invited by the BSO to teach a marketing class in September.  What a wonderful opportunity to take the stodge out of the marketing pudding and create something light, fun and easily digestible!

Stripping back our business every quarter and taking a peek at the numbers and level of bookings is a good way to determine if we’re on track for the year.  Even if you’re an Associate, it shows diligence  if you are striving to increase your own patient list and build your following.

This weekend, remember to also celebrate the countless people you’ve helped this quarter and how much pain you have relieved for so many of them.   You can take a moment to be proud of yourself even whilst eyeing up the gold foil on the choccie bunny.  Happy Easter.
