In my daily work building up Osteopathic Practices, I find the greatest under-utilised resource is social media marketing.
Now some will say that you can build a thriving business from scratch these days without going anywhere near social media.
Indeed you probably can. Just like you can walk from London to Newcastle. But goodness me that modern day train doesn’t half make the journey quicker, easier and more comfortable!
Marketing your Osteobiz needs to be a several pronged attack! And social media marketing is just one of the necessary prongs. Sadly, many Osteopaths are still remaining invisible and struggling along. But social media is one way of being able to get in front of THOUSANDS of local potential patients. So why wouldn’t you crack on and tell those people in pain just how you can help them?
Social media marketing basics
- It’s FREE! (and we all like something for nothing!)
- It’s EASY (once you know how!)
- It’s CONVENIENT (you can schedule posts ahead and add extra in when you get a cancellation)
- It’s EFFECTIVE (I’ve built a thriving business largely due to social media and blogs and you can too!)
A picture is worth a thousand words!
You probably already know that our brains can gather the meaning from an image far quicker than by trawling through text and processing it. That’s why cartoons are so effective – one image can have us laughing in no time even if there are no words. We process the image and expressions and immediately understand the message.
And so with social media marketing. Our online and offline worlds are ridiculously busy. We are constantly bombarded with information and our brains are massively overloaded! So we learn to filter out the irrelevant, the nonsense and the incomprehensible.
During our busy weeks, we don’t have the attention spans any more to read great long articles. If we have five minutes to look at social media we will probably be on the small screens of our phones or tablets. Our finger will be on the touch screen and begin whizzing it upwards until something grabs our attention and makes us STOP!
It’s therefore much more likely that we will stop for an image or even a frozen video image with an impactful headline.
So how can you easily stand out on social media?
Given the fact that we are more readily drawn to images rather than pure text, we need to use pictures which will resonate with our target audience. And remember – if you have no target you will just be shooting your arrows into the abyss! And that’s not savvy.
Knowing your target market (Perfect Patient I call it) means that you will know exactly what image would resonate with them. Then you can add in text which further strikes a chord. We call these ‘Memes’. A clear ‘call to action’ will then have them reaching for the phone to call you or visiting your website to find out more and book online.
Always make it easy for your audience to make a decision and act upon it and you’ll be packed to the rafters in no time!
